P1 and P2 Energy and Energy Transfer Flashcards
Kinetic Energy = 1/2 x ____ x Velocity Squared
Mass
GPE = ____ x Grav Field Strength x _____
Mass and Height
Elastic Potential = 1/2 x Spring Constant x _______
Extension^2
What is Specific Heat Capacity?
How much energy is required to increase the temperature of 1kg of a solution by 1 degree
Change in Thermal Energy = Mass x Specific Heat x __________
Temperature Change
How to test for Specific Heat Capacity? (Practical)
- Measure mass of solution in beaker and place immersion heater, Thermometer in it
- Record starting temperature and add insulating foam around the beaker
- Add Joulemeter and Power Pack and wait 30 mins, record final temperature and joules and find spec heat
Specific Heat Capacity = _______ / Mass x Temperature Change
Change in Thermal Energy
Efficiency = __________ / Total Power Output
Efficiency = Useful Output Energy Transfer / ________
Useful Power Output
Total Input Energy Transfer
A blender is 70% efficient and has a Total Input Power of 600W. Calculate the Useful Power Output
-Useful Power Output = Efficiency x Total Power Output
Use Power Output = 0.7 x 600W = 420W
15000J of Thermal Energy is transferred in a Hob and 12000J of Thermal Energy passes into the water. Calculate the Efficiency
- Efficiency = Useful Output Energy Transfer / Total Energy Transfer
- Efficiency = 12000 / 15000 = 0.8 = 80%
What is conservation of Energy?
Energy can never be created/destroyed
Power = _______ / Time
Power = Work Done / _____
Energy Transferred
Time
How do buildings keep warm and not loose Thermal Energy??
- Wall Insulation, placing material in between the walls
- Double Glazed Windows
- Loft Insulation
Lubrication
- Reduces friction, generates less heat between two surfaces meaning more efficient
Thermal Conductivity
Measure of how quick energy transfers through a material
