P4 and P5 Electrical Currents and General Electricity Flashcards
What is Electric Current?
The flow of Electrical Charge around a complete closed circuit
What is resistance?
Anything slowing down the flow, measured in Ohms
What is Potential Difference?
Difference in electrical currents between two points of a circuit, measured in Volts, and also driving force of the electrical charge
What is a Series Circuit?
Circuit where electricity can only go on one path and gives current through each component one at a time
What is a Parallel Circuit?
Circuit where the electricity can go on multiple paths and can share the current between several components
Charge Flow (Coulombs) = Current x ______
Time
Potential Difference = Energy Transfer x ________
Charge
What way do Electrons flow through?
- to +
What way do Currents flow through?
+ to -
How to find total Resistance?
Resistance A + Resistance B
Name and Describe the 3 types of Wires?
- Neutral Wires are blue, current flows through it
- Live Wires are brown, provides Alternating Potential Difference and current flows through it
- Earth Wires and green and yellow, protects the wiring and current doesn’t flow through it
What is Direct/Alternating Current?
- Direct Current flows in same direction
- Alternating Current changes flow back and forth
Energy Transferred = _____ x Time
Power
Energy Transferred = Charge Flow x ____________
Potential Difference
Power = Potential Difference x _______
Current
