B4 Organising Animals and Plants Flashcards
What are the 3 types of Blood Vessels and their functions?
Arteries - Carries blood away from heart
Capillaries - Exchanges materials
Veins - Carries blood to the heart
Why do Arteries have thick walls and Capillaries have thin walls?
Arteries need to thick walls to withstand high pressured blood. Where as Capillaries carry low pressured blood
Purpose of Valves in Veins?
To stop blood going backwards, make it go correct direction
What are the 4 things in blood?
Red Blood Cells
White Blood Cells
Platelets
Plasma
Purpose of Red Blood Cells?
Have lots of room for Oxygen, due to not having Nucleus and Large Surface Area
Purpose of White Blood Cells?
Create Antibodies to fight against antitoxins
Purpose of Platelets?
Helps clot blood and create wounds
Purpose of Plasma?
Carries everything in the blood: Urea, Co.2, Water, Amino/Lactic Acids
What are Stents?
Stents hold open closed arteries to allow blood through
Describe the Heart
- Double Circulatory System
- Right side has low pressured blood, Left side has high pressured blood
- Blood is pumped through left/right ventricles and atriums
Describe the Lungs
- Oxygen goes through the Trachea when you breath in
- Oxygen then goes through Bronchioles which have Alveoli
- Gas exchanged then occurs in Alveoli, and gas diffuse in and out of the blood stream
What is the Leaf Vien?
Has Xylem (To transports Water and Minerals) and Phloem (To transports Glucose)
What is the Stoma?
Pores allowing gases to go in/out of the leaf
What is the Waxy Cuticle?
Waterproof layer reducing water loss
What are Guard Cells?
Controls water loss using pores
