B4 Organising Animals and Plants Flashcards

1
Q

What are the 3 types of Blood Vessels and their functions?

Q

Why do Arteries have thick walls and Capillaries have thin walls?

A

Arteries need to thick walls to withstand high pressured blood. Where as Capillaries carry low pressured blood

Q

Describe the Heart

A
  • Double Circulatory System
  • Right side has low pressured blood, Left side has high pressured blood
  • Blood is pumped through left/right ventricles and atriums

Q

Describe the Lungs

A
  • Oxygen goes through the Trachea when you breath in
  • Oxygen then goes through Bronchioles which have Alveoli
  • Gas exchanged then occurs in Alveoli, and gas diffuse in and out of the blood stream

16
Q

What is Air Space?

A

Allows Gas Exchange to occur

17
Q

What is the Spongy Mesophyll?

A

Layer of loose fitting cells with lots of Air Space

18
Q

What is the Epidermis?

A

Transparent coating protecting the leaf

19
Q

What is the Palisade Layer?

A

Large Surface Area with lots of Chloroplast for Photosynthesis

20
Q

What affects transpiration?

A
  • Temperature (evaporation happens quicker the hotter it is)
  • Wind (removing water vapour)
  • Light intensity (makes Photosynthesis happen quicker)
21
Q

What is transpiration?

A

Bringing water to the leaf for Photosynthesis

22
Q

Arteries

A
  • Carry Blood away and to the heart
  • Thick Muscle, Narrow Lumen
  • No Valves
23
Q

Veins

A
  • Brings blood to the heart/other places

- Thin Muscle, Wide Lumen
