What was the Forster’s Education Act and when was it?
1870 and it was when school boards set up where school places were inadequate.
What was the Fisher Education Act and when was it?
1918 and it was when the state became responsible for education. Attendance was made compulsory until the age of 14.
What was the Education and Skills Act and when was it?
2008 and it set out that from 2015, all young people (16 and 17 year old) will be required to participate in education or training.
Why was there a drive in education?
-There was a need for an educated workforce
-More recent age increase
-Competition between other industrial countries
What is Formal Education?
It provides students opportunities to learn through official curriculum, which includes all the subjects studied in lessons e.g maths, English
What is informal education?
It provides students with the opportunity to learn outside the classroom. The hidden curriculum generally involves learning rules, routines and regulations. Students may learn these things without necessarily realising that they’re learning them.
What is skills provision?
Teaching skills for work
What is role allocation?
Choosing the most able people for the most important jobs
What is the socialisation role?
Teaching norms and values.
What is social control?
Teaching acceptance of rules and values
What us the political role?
Teaching people to be effective citizens
