What is the other role of the kidney other than excretion?
A
main organ for osmoregulation
- involves controlling water ptoential of the blood within very narrow boundaries, regardless of the activities of the body

Why is osmoregulation important?
A
water potential of the tissue fluid needs to be as stable as possible, because if water moves into or out the cells by osmosis it can cause damage and even death

What is ADH?
A
- antidiruetic hormone
- negative feedback systems
- controls the amount of water lost in urine

Where is ADH produced?
A
- in hypothalmus
- secreted into the posterior pituitary gland where it is stored

What does ADH affect?
A
ADH increases the permeability of the dital convoluted tubule and, most importantly, the collecting duct to water
