Actions - Issuing a Red, Red, Red Priority Signal (when and why)

A

Transmit a Red, Red, Red signal to send an urgent message where extreme radio congestion exists, in order to gain priority access to CommCen and the fireground channel. Scenarios where this may be required include the following:
- A word back message requiring the escalation of an incident
- A general message communicating a significant fireground safety issue
- A Red Flag Warning

Receiving on Dispatch

A

Cease all other radio transmissions upon hearing a Red, Red, Red Priority Signal, as these take precedence over all other radio transmissions, except for Mayday messages. CommCen will stop all other transmissions and acknowledge the priority caller.

Receiving on Fireground

A

Cease all other radio transmissions upon hearing a Red, Red, Red Priority Signal on the fireground channel, and allow the urgent message to be completed before recommencing radio transmissions.

Ensure that the urgent message is responded to as required.

How to Issue

A
  • Press the PTT button, state “Red, Red, Red” prior to issuing the urgent message.
  • Utilise the Duress Alarm function if still unable to communicate, in order to gain priority access to transmit the Red, Red, Red Priority Signal
  • Send a Mayday radio message in life threatening situations
  • Respond to any requests from CommCen for a sitrep
  • Ensure the Duress Alarm is reset at the earliest practicable time when it has been used to transmit the Red, Red, Red Priority Signal.
