Receiving a Mayday
Prioritise Mayday messages over Red, Red, Red priority signals and all other messages.
Cease all other radio traffic upon hearing a Mayday message.
Respond to the Mayday message immediately and assume control of the response. This is to be completed by the IC or a delegated person, and is to include the following:
- Confirm the details provided by the caller
- Commit resources to the intervention effort including and pre-formed RIT
- Establish a Rescue Sector (as determined by the IC)
- Allocate appropriate radio channels to the intervention effort
- Issue a general message or a Red Flag Warning to the fire/incident channels, if appropriate
Ensure only resources within the immediate vicinity render assistance at the direction of the IC or delegate.
Ensure all other crews continue to combat the fire or incident.
Acknowledge receipt of Mayday message and relay the message to CommCen if CommCen have not acknowledged the Mayday caller and stopped all other transmissions
