Freud: Oral Stage

- Activities=sucking and eating
- Major conflict=weaning
- Interpersonal focus=self, minimal differentiation from others
Freud: Anal Stage
18 months to 3 years
- Primary body zone: anal
- Activities=elimination
- Major conflict=toilet training
- Interpersonal focus=rebellion vs compliance w parental demands
Freud: Phallic Stage
3 to 6 years
- Primary body zone: genital
- Activities=general exploration
- Major conflict=Oedipal
- Interpersonal focus=attraction to opposite parent, identification with same sex parent
Frued: Latency
6 to 11 years
- Primary body zone: none
- Activities= social relationships and mastery over impulses
Piaget: Sensorimotor
0-2 years
-Experience world through senses/actions. -Object permanence and Stranger anxiety.
Piaget: Preoperational
2-6 years
Represent things with words/images. Pretend play, egocentrism, language development
Piaget: Concrete Operational
7-11
-Think logically about concrete events. Conservation, mathematical transformation.
Piaget: Formal Operational
12 to adulthood
-Think about hypothetical scenarios. Abstract logic. Potential for mature moral reasoning.
Erikson: Trust vs mistrust
Birth-18 months
- Trust develops when needs are consistently met
- Mistrust develops when needs aren’t met
- With trust, infant develops sense of hope and optimisim
Eriskon: Autonomy vs shame and doubt
18 months to 3 years
- Autonomy is developed as child gains inc body control
- Same and doubt appear when child is forced to be dependent in areas in which he is capable of controle
- Positive outcome is seen in sense of self control/will power
Erikson: Initiative vs guilt
3 to 6 years
- Child uses his/her senses to explore physical world and imagine a fantasy world
- Conscience is developed as child starts to respond to inner voice
- Guilt arises when child undertakes things in conflict with goals
- Positive outcome when there’s direction + purpose
Erikson: Industry vs inferiority
6 to 11 years
- Child works toward completion of activities and tasks and achieving a sense of accomplishment and mastery
- He becomes a rule learner and works cooperatively with others.
- Inferiority arises when there is more expected from child than he can achieve
Kohlberg: Amoral
Birth to 18 months
-Moral reasoning cannot begin until the child reaches a certain level of cognitive development
Kohlberg: Preconventional, Obedience and punishment orientation
18 months to 3 years
-Behavioral decisions made baed on fear of punishment, good and bad defined in terms of physical consequence
Kohlberg: Preconventional, Instrumental relativist orientation
3 to 6 years
-Behavioral decisions made based on concern or self and egocentric satisfaction, although may occasionally do something to please another if there are advantages for self.
