NucleicAcids:Structure And DNA Replication Flashcards
What is DNA and function?
DNA is DEOXYribonucleic Acid and function is HOLDS GENETIC INFORMATION
What is RNA and its function?
RNA is Ribonucleic Acid and function is TRANSFERS GENETIC INFORMATION from DNA to RIBOSOMES
Describe the Structure of nucleotide and what are DNA and RNA?
Nucleotide are Phosphate bonded to a Pentose sugar with a nitrogenous Base which forms phosphate backbone in DNA
DNA and RNA are polymers of nucleotide:Polynucleotides
Monomers are nucleotides
What Sugar and Bases are present in DNA and RNA and how many Hydrogen bonds present between Base Pairs?
In DNA there is Deoxyribose Sugar and in RNA you have ribose Sugar.
DNA base pairs:Adenine,Thymine,Guanine and Cytosine.
RNA base pairs:Adenine,Uracil,Guanine and Cytosine.
Guanine pairs up with Cytosine-3HydrogenBonds
Adenine pairs up with Thymine/Uracil:2HydrogenBonds
What is formed in a Condensation of Nucleotides?
Condensation of nucleotides produce a Dinucleotide
Forms Phosphodiester Bonds
What are the difference between DNA and RNA?
[Structures]
DNA:Two polynucleotide chains
Double Helix
RNA:ONE relatively short polynucleotide chain
Single Helix
