neuromuscular junctions Flashcards
what is a neuromuscular junction
where a motor neurone meets a skeletal muscle fibre
how are they structured
many neuromuscular junctions throughtout the muscle so that the muscle contraction is frequent enough
what does this allow
the contraction of the muscle is rapid and powerful when it is simultaneously stimulated by action potentials
how are the muscle fibred supplied
by a single motor neurone act like a motor unit
what are the similairties in neuromuscular junction and synapse
they both release neurotransmitters which are transported by diffusion , have recpetors that on binding to neurotransmitters lead to an influx of sodium ions
sodium potassium pump and enzyme to break down nt
what are the differences in neuromuscular junction
only excitory nt
links motor neurones to muscle fibres
action potential ends here
acetylcholine bind to receptors on membrane of muscle fibres rather than on receptors on post synaptic membrane
