competition Flashcards
what is intraspecific competition
when individuals of the same species are competitng whith each other for resources
what does the size of a population dependent on
the availability of resources which in turn affects the degree of competition between organisms
what is interspecific
when different species compete with each other for resources such as food, habitat, space, light
what happens when two different species are in competition
one species usually have competitive advantage so their population will increase whilst the other population will decrease which may result in complete removal of a spr=ecies
whaat is the exclusion principle
where two species are competiting for the same resources the organism that uses the resources most effectively will eliminate the other so no two species ocuupy the same niche
how do you see if a factor influences the size of a population
link the birth and the death rate to individual in a population
why cant an increase in food supply demonstrate a larger population
as it may just be bigger individuals rather than more individuals
what happens if there is an increase in food
there are mre individuals that are likely to survive so there is an increase probability they will produce offsprings and the population will increase
