Neuroanatomy - Dry Room (Week 2) Flashcards
Name the cranial nerves and their foramen
Base of the brain + the nerves
What bone does CN I (olfactory) pass through to enter which cranial fossa?
Ethmoid plate –> anterior cranial fossa
What type of fibres are present in CN I?
Special sensory (smell)
What type of fibres are in cranial nerve II?
Special sensory- vision
What type of fibres are present in cranial nerves III, IV and VI?
oculomotor (III)- motor + parasympathetic
trochlear (IV)- motor
abducens (VI)- motor
What types of fibres are present in trigeminal (CN V) nerve branches?
V1 ophthalmic= general sensory
V2 maxillary= general sensory
V3 mandibular= general sensory and motor
What type of fibres are present in facial (CN VII) nerve?
Parasympathetic- sensory and motor
What types of fibre is present in vestibulocochlear (CN VIII) nerve?
Special sensory (hearing + balance)
What types of fibres are present in glossopharyngeal (CN IX) nerve?
parasympathetic- motor and sensory
What two branches of the vagus nerve innervate the muscles of the larynx?
Superior laryngeal
Recurrent laryngeal nerve
What plexus does the vagus nerve form a part of and what does it innervate?
pharyngeal plexus- Innervates all muscles of pharynx except stylopharyngeus
What types of fibres are present in vagus (CN X) nerve?
parasympathetic, sensory and motor
What type of fibre is present in hypoglossal (CN XII) nerve?
motor
Which of the cranial nerves have parsymathetic component?
3, 7, 9 + 10
