NEURO - Parkinson's Flashcards
1
Q
Bromocriptine
A
Dopamine agonist: Ergot
Acts on post synaptic terminal in striatum
- Along with [Pramipexole, Ropinirole, Bromocriptine]
2
Q
Pramipexole
A
Dopamine agonist: Non-Ergot
Acts on post synaptic terminal in striatum
- Along with [Pramipexole, Ropinirole, Bromocriptine]
3
Q
Ropinirole
A
Dopamine agonist: Non-Ergot
Acts on post synaptic terminal in striatum
- Along with [Pramipexole, Ropinirole, Bromocriptine]
4
Q
Amantidine (MOA, TOX)
A
Dopamine availability
MOA: Presynaptic termina from Sub. Nigra
- Increase dopamine release
-
Block dopamine reuptake
- (also antiviral against Flu. A and rubella
TOX:
- Ataxia
- Livedo reticularis
- Blood clots in small cappillaries
- Lace-like purplish discolouration of skin

6
Q
Levodopa (MECH)
A
Mechanism:
- L-Dopa –[Dopa decarboxylase (CNS)] –> DOpamine
AE:
- Arrhythmias: dt/ peripheral conversion to catecholamines
- Dyskinesia following administration (on-off phenomenon)
- Akinesia between doses
7
Q
Levodopa (AE)
A
Mechanism:
- L-Dopa –[Dopa decarboxylase (CNS)] –> DOpamine
AE:
- Arrhythmias: dt/ peripheral conversion to catecholamines
- Dyskinesia following administration (on-off phenomenon)
- Akinesia between doses
8
Q
Entacapone, Tolcapone
A
Prevent peripheral L-dopa degradation
Block COMT
(Tolcapone also works centrally)
9
Q
Selegiline (mech, AE)
A
Mech:
- Central MAO-B inhibitor
AE:
- Enhance AE of levodopa
10
Q
Benztropine
A
Antimuscarinic:
improves tremor and regidity
Little effect on bradykinesia
