MOA:

• Increases GABA_A Cl- channel DURATION of opening

use:

• Sedative for anxiety, seizures, insomnia
• Induction of anesthesia (thiopental)

AE:

• Contraindicated in porphyrias
• Fatal cardio-resp depression
• CNS depression (increase with EtOH)
• Dependence
• P450 inducer

Od Rx:

• Supportive (resp and BP)
• Bicarb
