Nervous System Flashcards
Nervous System
Communication System for the body
Nerve tissue is made of nerve cells called…
Neurons
Neurons are made of
Cell body and AXONS
Neurons communicate by…
Sending electrochemical responses (neurotransmitters) across synapses (junction between neurons)
Sensory organs:
Ears, skin, eyes, nose, mouth… ect.
Process of hand, eye coordination:
Eye senses environmental stimuli and sends signals to brain, brain sends messages through nerves to glands and muscles which thus respond
Central Nervous System (CNS)
Brain and Spinal Cord
Peripheral Nervous System
The rest of your nerves (Sensory and Motor)
Sensory Division of Peripheral Nervous System
Carries signals from senses to CNS (Visceral and Somatic)
Visceral Sensory Nerves
Carry impulses form body organs (SENSES) to CNS from the autonomic nervous system
Somatic Sensory Nerves
Carry impulses from body surface (SKIN) to CNS
Motor Division
Causes movement (somatic and autonomic)
Somatic Motor Nerves: VOLENTARY MOVMENT OF MUSCLE
Autonomic Nervous System
Connects organs to CNS. NOT VOLUNTARY. Feelings not related to senses. (Sympathetic and Parasympathetic) Muscle related
Sympathetic nervous system
Carries impulses tha stimulate organs. Fight or flight. adrenaline, fear. muscle related
Parasympathetic nervous system
Carries impulses of feelings back from organs. Slow down and digest. Muscle related
