Cellular Respiration/ Photosythesis Flashcards
Cellular Resperation
Glucose + 6O2 + 2ATP = 6CO2 + 6H20 + 38 ATP (gross)
Glycolysis
Takes 2 ATPs and breaks down glucose, 2 Pi, and 2NAD+ into 2 Pyruvic acid molecules, 4 ATP, 2 (coenzyme) NADH, and 2H+
Glycolysis occurs outside…
of mitochondria
Krebs cycle occurs in
Matrix (center) of cell
Krebs Cycle (2cd) step
Pyruvic Acid is broken down into CO2, H+, (Coenzyme NADH), and 2 ATPs
Cytochromes
The links in ETS made of a protein and Heme (iron group)
Electron Transport
Occurs in Cristae (inner edges) of cell. Produces 32 ATP. A process in which the NADH (and FADH2) produced in Glycolysis and Krebs cycle releases electrons to run along a chain of cytochromes in the Cristae of mitochondria which pass the electrons from Heme group to Heme group incrementally storing the energy released by the freed electrons as it goes until the electron finally makes it to the last and lowest energy level cytochrome where it is donated to oxygen to make H2O.
Photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = glucose + 6Oxygen
Photolysis occurs in…
Grana of the chloroplast
Photolysis (equation)
PHOTONS + WATER = HYDROGEN (contained in H acceptor) + OXYGEN + ATP
Dark reaction occurs in the…
Stroma of the Chloroplast
Dark reaction (CO2 Fixation) Equation:
ATP + 6CO2 + H = GLUCOSE
Anaerobic Respiration:
Also called fermentation, skips Krebs Cycle and turns Pyruvic Acid into end products (such as lactic acid or alcohol) and CO2. Not as efficient as Aerobic Respiration.
NADH=
2 electrons + 1 proton + NAD+
