Nerves of the Lower Limb Flashcards
What is the origin of the femoral nerve?
L2-L4
What is the motor function of the femoral nerve?
Anterior leg compartment
What is the sensory supply of the femoral nerve?
This supplies the anterior-medial thigh. It then gives off the saphenous nerve and this supplies the medal leg and medial foot.
What branches off to give the saphenous nerve?
Femoral nerve
What is the origin of the Obturator nerve?
L2-L4
What is the motor supply of the Obturator nerve?
The adductors of the thigh (medial compartment), expect the hamstring part of the adductor magnus.
What is the sensory supply of the Obturator nerve?
Skin of medial thigh
What is the origin of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh?
This is sensory nerve from L2-3.
What is sensory supply for the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh?
Lateral thigh
What is the origin of the posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh?
S1-S3
What is the sensory supply of the posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh?
Posterior thigh and top posterior leg
What is the origin of the Sciatic nerve?
L4-S3
What is the motor function of the Sciatic nerve?
Posterior thigh compartment and hamstring part of the adductor magnus
What is the sensory supply of the Sciatic nerve?
There is no direct sensory supply
What does the sciatic nerve divide into and when does this division occur?
It divides at the popliteal fossa into the common peroneal and the tibial nerve.
