Indications
A
- Narcotic overdoses, including the following: Morphine, hydromorphone, fentanyl, Demerol, Paregoric, methadone, heroin, hydrocodone, oxycodone.
- Synthetic analgesic overdoses, including the following: Nubain, Stadol, Tallinn, Darvon
- To rule out narcotics in coma of unknown origin

Contraindications
A
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the medication

Precautions
A
- May cause withdrawal effects in patients dependent on narcotics.
- Short acting; should be augmented every 5 minutes.
- Should never be used as part of a “Coma Cocktail”

Adult dosage:
A
Suspected OD with respiratory compromise: 0.4 - 2 mg IV/IO/IM or 2 mg IN.
Cardiac arrest from Narcotic OD 2 mg IV/IO. Max cumulative dose 10mg
