Muscle and Skin (5/14) Flashcards
Voluntary
we have control over
somatic branch
Involuntary
cannot control
sympathetic and parasympathetic
Fascile
bundle of muscle finers
muscle cells
myocytes
myofibril
smaller than myocytes
Sarcomeres
made up of myofilaments which are composed of myosin and actin
Muscle anatomy
sarcoplasm
sacrolemma
sarcoplasmic reticulum (stores calcium)
sarcomere
Skeletal muscle
voluntary, somatic, striated due to sarcomeres, multinucleated
Skeletal muscle subtypes
slow-twich fibers (red)
fast-twich fibers (white) -less myoglobin and mitochondria, rely on anaerobic metabolism
Smooth muscle
involuntary (autonomic NS) parasympathetic sympathetic non-striated (no sarcomeres) uninucleate EX) blood vessel, peristalsis, veins, bladder, uterus
Cardiac muscle
makes up the heart uninucleate involuntary control striated contract synchronously through intercalated discs myogenic activity (SA node)
Muscle contractin
sarcomere
smooth muscle still contains actin and myosin
Sliding filament theory
actin and myosin contract
H zone
thick filaments
i band
thin filaments
