MSK- hip and thigh protocol Flashcards
Anterior Hip in Long Axis (LAX) indications?
- Differentiates hip effusion (intracapsular) fromIliopsoas Bursitis(extracapsular)
- Best image to guideHip Injectionor aspiration (broad femoral neck as target)
Anterior Hip in Long Axis (LAX) positioning?
- supine and hip in neutral position or slight external rotation
- probe in line with femoral neck
Anterior Hip in Transverse or Short Axis (SAX) indications?
- confirms hip effusion (intracapsular)
Anterior Hip in Transverse or Short Axis (SAX) positioning?
- supine with hip in neutral position or slight external rotation
Probe in short axis with approximately 20 degrees angulation
what is the most anterior of the gluteal tendons?
- gluteus miniumus
where does the glutus medius insert?
greater trochanter laterally and moves over the gluteus minimus
Lateral Hip at Trochanteric Bursa indications?
- EvaluatesTrochanteric Bursitis(Gluteus Medius bursa)
- Directs trochanteric bursa region injection (typically tendonosis rather than the actually rareBursitis)
Lateral Hip at Trochanteric Bursa positioning?
Patient lies on their side (decubitus)
where does the gluteus maximus insert?
further inferolateral and posteriorly
where does the gluteus minimus and medius insert?
into the greater trochanter
gluteus medius overlies what muscle?
gluteus minimus muscle
how to interrogate the ISCHIOGLUTEAL BURSA?
- Move the probe posterirly in a transverse plane till the ischium in visualised
- The bursa is anterior to this and under the gluteus maximus
