MSK - Anterior Thigh Muscles (Knee Extensors) Flashcards
What are the four knee extensor muscles that make up the Quadriceps Femoris?
- Rectus Femoris
- Vastus Lateralis
- Vastus Intermedius
- Vastus Medialis
What are the origins of the Rectus Femoris?
- Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine
- Superior to Acetabulum
Where does the Rectus Femoris insert?
Patella via the quadriceps tendon
What is the innvervation of the Rectus Femoris?
Femoral Nerve (L3, L4)
What are the actions of the Rectus Femoris?
- Flexion of the leg at the hip joint
- Extension of the leg at the knee joint
What are the origins of the Vastus Lateralis?
- Greater Trochanter
- Intertrochanteric Crest
- Linea Aspera of Femur
Where does the Vastus Lateralis insert?
- Patella via the quadriceps tendon
- Tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
What is the innervation of the Vastus Lateralis?
Femoral Nerve (L2-L4)
What is the action of the Vastus Lateralis?
- Extension of the leg at the knee joint
What is the origin of the Vastus Intermedius?
Anteriolateral aspect of the femoral shaft
Where does the Vastus Intermedius insert?
- Patella via the quadriceps tendon
- Tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
What is the innervation of the Vastus Intermedius?
Femoral Nerve (L2-L4)
What is the action of the Vastus Intermedius?
Extension of the leg at the knee joint
What is the origin of the Vastus Medialis?
- Linea Aspera
- Intertrochanteric Line of femur
Where does the Vastus Medialis insert?
- Patella via the quadriceps tendon
- Tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
