- William waits for submission in Hastings until 15 Oct
- March on London
- sent troops Winchester to seize treasury
- submission from many A-S townspeople out of fear of destruction
- submission at Berkhamstead
- William crowned 25/12/1066 @ Westminster Abbey

- more land = more power
- common religion
- money and land promised by William to his followers if they succeeded
- William allegedly promised the English throne by both Edward the Confessor and Harold Godwinson

How did the Normans keep power over England ?
A
- castles
