Microscope Flashcards
Highest magnification power
White - 1,000
What is the magnification power of each objective?
Red 40
Yellow 100
Blue 400
White 1000
How should u carry a microscope ?
One hand- holding the arm
Other hand- bottom of the base
Function of objective lenses
Adds magnification to the object being viewed
Function of the eyepiece
Allows u to see the object 10 times larger than it actually is
Function of the stage
Supports the slide being viewed
Function of the mirror
Collects & directs light through the stage opening
Controls the amount of light being reflected
Function of the diaphragm
Increases / decreases the amount of light entering through the stage opening (see the object clearly)
Function of the coarse adjustment knob
Moves body tube, brings the object into view
Function of the fine adjustment knob
Brings objects into sharp focus, moves the body tune slightly (focusing with high power lens)
Do all microscopes have mirrors ?
No some have a built in light source like a light bulb.
Give an example to find the total magnification for pairs of lenses
Eyepiece lens= 5x
Objective lens= 10x
Total mag=50x
Why do u have to be careful when focusing with high power lenses ? Precautions ?
Do not hit or damage the slide below.
Look at the objective from the side
Do not use coarse knob to focus for high power objective lenses (use fine adjustment)
When focusing with the coarse adjustment knob
Use it when focusing low power objectives to raise the body tube
When using the fine adjustment knob
Use high power lenses
Turned no more than 1/4 to bring object into sharp focus on slide
Do not hit the slide with objectives
