Meiosis Chart Sheet Flashcards
What happens in Prophase I?
Synapsids, tetrads formed.
Crossing over
Homologous chromosomes form in pairs.
What happens in Metaphase I?
Homologous chromosomes line up at the cells equator
What happens in Anaphase I?
Homologous chromosomes pull apart and move towards seperate poles.
What happens in Telophase I?
Cytoplasm divides into two seperate cells with 46 chromosomes each.
Are the cells identical after Telophase I?
No
What happens in Prophase II?
Double stranded chromosomes attatch to spindle fibers.
What happens in Metaphase II?
Chromosomes line up along equator
What happens in Anaphase II?
Double stranded chromosomes are pulled apart.
What happens in Telophase II?
4 cells containing single stranded chromosomes are formed.
In Prophase II, is there duplication?
No
What is chromatin?
Thread like strands of DNA present in interphase (I between mitosis and meiosis). Not visible under a microscope.
What do double stranded chromosomes consist of?
Two identical chromatids held together by a centromere.
What are homologous chromosomes?
A pair of chromosomes containing the same genes, but possible with different alleles (characteristics). One is paternal and one is maternal.
