what is maternal collapse?
respiratory or cardiac distress that may lead to cardiac arrest
what are the two extra reversible causes of cardiac arrest in pregnancy, besides the four H’s and T’s?
eclampsia
intracerebral bleed
why is CPR less effective in pregnant women?
uterus causes aortocaval compression, reducing venous return to the heart
what effect can lying in the supine position have during pregnancy and why?
supine hypotension
uterus can compress the IVC and aorta
how can supine hypotension be reversed?
turning the woman into the left lateral position
what position should patients with maternal collapse be put in?
recovery position with left manual uterine displacement
when is perimortem C section performed to assist maternal resuscitation?
5 minutes after maternal collapse
what drug is given for cardiac arrest in pregnancy?
1mg adrenaline every 2 mins
what drug is given for VF/VT in pregnancy?
300mg amiodarone
what drug is given for opiate overdose in pregnancy?
0.4-0.8mg naloxone
what drug is given for magnesium toxicity in pregnancy?
1g calcium gluconate
what drug is given for local anaesthetic toxicity in pregnancy?
1.5ml 20% intralipid
