What is the purpose of the SVP?
Enhance the Department’s outreach, marketing, and effectiveness is serving the public.
In general, how does the SVP work?
Senior men and women volunteer their time to assist departmental employees in the performance of their duties.
Which division oversees the SVP?
Planning and Analysis Division (in Research and Planning Section). Community Outreach and Marketing Unit has statewide oversight responsibility of SVP.
What are the operational modes of the SVP?
Departmental and Civic support
What types of duties would fall under the departmental mode for the SVP?
Clerical functions (e.g. telephone and front counter coverage, data entry, filing, etc.), and field related functions (e.g. child safety seat technicians, deploying SPECTER trailers, transporting vehicles for service).
What types of duties might fall under the civic support mode for the SVP?
Traffic control and departmental events, CHiP’s for Kids, assisting the POA.
Who supervises senior volunteers?
The Area SVP coordinator.
Where is the statewide SVP coordinator assigned?
Community Outreach and Marketing Unit
Does each field division have a SVP coordinator?
Yes.
What rank should the Area SVP supervisor be?
Sergeant or above.
What are the responsibilities of the Area SVP supervisor?
Ensure all monthly, quarterly, and annual reports are submitted to the commander. When a SVP fund is established, ensure that a financial is submitted to Area and Division.
What rank should the Area SVP coordinator be?
At least one rank below the Area SVP supervisor.
How many SVP coordinators can an Area have?
One.
How many associate SVP coordinators can an Area have?
As many as they want. Associate coordinators do not have to be uniformed.
Does each Area with senior volunteers have to have an Advisory Committee?
No, only when applicable and upon approval of the Area commander.
When senior volunteer staffing allows, what shall the command structure of the Area SVP be? SVP President, SVP Vice-President, SVP Secretary, SVP Treasurer
Any area with the approval of division.
Which areas can have a SVP?
55 years old.
What is the minimum age requirements of a senior volunteer?
Yes.
Is a background investigation part of the screening process for senior volunteer applicants?
6 days.
The background investigation of a senior volunteer applicant must be completed within how long after it is begun?
The Area SVP coordinator.
Who is responsible for completing each senior volunteer’s background investigation?
A departmental senior volunteer identification card. (issued by the statewide coordinator)
What type of identification do senior volunteers carry?
Yes. Kept at Area.
