Lymphatics Part 2 Flashcards
Where does the formation of lymph take place?
At the arterial end of blood capillaries
How is lymph moved out the capillaries?
Hydrostatic pressure exceeds colloidal pressure exerted by plasma proteins
Causes fluids and nutrients to pass out the capillaries, bathing cells as tissue fluid
How is lymph moved back into capillaries?
At the venous end of capillaries, colloidal pressure from plasma proteins exceeds hydrostatic pressure so lymph moves back in
What happens to excess fluid that does not move back into the venous end of capillaries?
It is moped up by the lymphatic system
What causes lymphatic vessels to squeeze out lymph?
Skeletal muscle contractions
Where does lymph re-enter the venous circulation?
In the chest
Where are lymph nodes found?
Along the route of lymphatic vessels throughout the body
What shape are lymph nodes
Small kidney bean structures
What is the function of lymph nodes?
To filter lymph - monitor and cleanse it
filter out damaged cells and cancer cells
