Lymphatic system A and P Flashcards
What does the lymphatic system consist of?
A network of vessels transporting interstitial fluid (Lymph)
Organs and tissues that create lympocytes.
What are the functions of the lymphatic system?
- Draining excess interstitial fluid
- Transports fats and fat soluble vitamins from the gastric tract
- mount an immune response to protect against disease.
Which is has more valves, lymphatic veins or cardiovascular veins?
Lymphatic veins
Which is larger, lymphatic capillaries or blood capillaries?
Lymphatic Capillaries
How is lymph moved around the body?
Moved around the body by the same pumps that move venous blood, such as skeletal muscle contraction).
Where does the lymphatic system rejoin the circulatory system?
At the junction of internal jugular and subclavain veins.
Name the Primary organs of the lymphatic system?
Red bone marrow
Name the secondary organs of the lymphatic system.
Lymph nodes
Spleen
What is the function of the primary organs in the lymphatic system?
To create imunnocomponent cell to generate an immune response.
What is the role of the secondary organs in the lymphatic in providing an immune response?
To provide a location for an immune response to occur.
How do B cells fight infection?
Activated B Cells convert to plasma cells, which release antibodies to bind to the pathogen and disable them.
What are the different types of T Cells?
- Helper = Activate B Cells
- Killer = Attack Pathogens
- memory = Remember the complementary shape in the event of reoccurance.
