what time of year are tick eggs layed? when is highest incidence of human and domestic animal incidence
eggs layed: spring-summer
human/animal: late spring-summer when small nymphs are active and are outside frequently
signs of lyme disease
fever, lameness, arthritis, (bullseye in humans)
severe signs= cardiac disease, renal disease, encephalitis
how long must an infected tick be attached to host to spread disease
36-48hr
how to diagnose lyme disease
serology, PCR testing
done at testing center for horses, in-house for dogs
how to treat lyme disease
long term Ab treatment
the vaccine for dogs for lyme is not very effective at preventing disease but
will make treatment easier if contracted
