Leukocyte differential count. Flashcards
Name 5 kinds of leukocytes in blood and their categorization?
Polymorphonuclear granulocytes : neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils.
Mononuclear agranulocytes: Monocytes and lymphocytes.
How are leukocyte production regulated?
Produced at varying rates according to the changing needs of the body.
What is WBC differential count?
Percentage distribution of each population within the total leukocyte count.
How is the differential count performed?
Meander movement, count 100 leukocytes. Differentiate and sort into populations based on morphological appearance.
Difference between :
- polymorphonuclear granulocytes
- mononuclear agranulocytes
- have a segmented nucleus with several lobes, cytoplasm contain granules.
- have a single large, non-segmented nucleus and few granules
Function of neutrophils?
phagocytic specialist, first defenders during bacterial innflamm, important in innflammatory response.
Eosinophils are associated with?
hypersensitivity conditions, internal parasite infection
Basophils are associated with?
allergic reactions and innflammations (tissue derivates = mast cells)
Which substances are produced by granulocytes?
Histamine and heparin.
Categorize cells of lymphocytes?
B-cells hormonal defenders
T-cells cell-cell mediatet immune response
-T-helper, initiator
-T-cytotoxic destroy infected cells
-T-supressor balance other two by supressing immune response
