65% plasma and 45% blood elements. (mostly RBC)

What is haematocrit?
A
The volume of erythrocytes expressed as a percentage of the total bloodvolume or in (L/L). Also called PCV (packed cell volume)

What is microhaematocrit?
A
Plasma and erythrocyte ratio is measured by centrifugation in microcappillaries.

Haematocrit value depends on?
A
Number of erythrocytes
sex of the animal (testosteron stimulate erythropoiesis)
size of erythrocytes
hydration of the organism (dehydration –> lower plasma level, incr. proportion of RBC)

How can you calculate haematocrit?
A
RBC (red bloodcell count) x MCV (mean ceLl volume) –> average number of RBC.
