Lecture 25: Upper GI Flashcards
what are the 2 divisions of digestvie system?
Alimentary canal (GI tract) and accessory organs
what are the main sections of ailmentary canal
start:oral cavity
end:anus
-oral cavity
-pharynx
-esophagus
-stomach
-small int
-large int
what are the digestive accessory organs
teeth, tongue, salivary glands, liver, gall
bladder and pancreas.
boundaries of oral cavity:
anterior=lips
posterior=oropharyngeal isthmus
superiorly=palate
inferior=tongue/muscular diaphragm
laterally=cheeks
two parts of oral cavity
vestibule (space btw lips and dental arches) and oral cavity proper
what muscle forms corelips
orbicularis oris
how do lips connect to gum
frenulum. mucosal fold
where is uvula
soft palate
label. which tonsil is found here
- palatoglossal arch
- palatopharyngeal arch
palatine tonsil is located in tonsilar fossa btw these arches
three parts of teeth
- crown: visible
- root: within alveolar process of mandible/maxilla. attached to bony socket via peridontal ligament
- neck: contains crown/root
how are teeth classified
based on shape of crown.n. There are two
incisors, one canine, two premolars, and three molars in each half of the
upper and lower jaws
what is core of tooth made of
dentine covered by enamel in the crown, and cement in the root
pulp cavity
contains tooth nerves, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels. in the dentine
root canal
extntion pulp cavity into roots
what supplies the teeth of
the upper jaw, adjacent gingiva, and palates.
CN V (trigeminal), maxillary division
1.crown
2.neck
3.root
4.enamel
5.dentine
6. gingiva
fxn tongue
swallowing, phonation,
tasting and chewing
what is pharyngeal part of tongue
posterior 1 third
what is oral part of tongue
anterior 2/3 aka body
what separates anterior and posterior tongue
terminal sulcus
which nerves supply anterior tongue
special sense taste: facial nerve CN VII
general sensation: trigeminal (CNV) mandibular division
which nerve supplis posterior tongue
CN IX (glossopharyngeal) both special and general
what is found on superior surface of anterior tongue
lingual papillae that are named based on their
shape and include filiform papillae (thread like), fungiform papillae
(mushroom like), folliate papillae (leaf like), and vallate papillae.
what forms the psoterior third of tongue
lymphoid tissue, organizd into lingual tonsils
lingual frenulum
midline mucosal fold attaches inferior surface of tongue to floor oral cavity
what supplies blood totongue
lingual branch of the external carotid artery
nerve supply teeth
CNV (V2 supplies upper teeth, V3 supplies loewr)
where does esophagus start?
CVI (end point pharynx)
where does esophagus end
TXI, stomach
what mediastinum is esophagus in
superior and psoterioe
