Lecture #19 - Vitamin D and Calcium Metabolism Flashcards
1
Q
What is the role of Vitamin D3 in calcium regulation?
A
- Vitamin D3 is converted in the liver to 25-OHD3 (25-hydroxyvitamin D)
- which is then converted in the kidney to 1,25-OHD3 (Calcitriol), the active form of vitamin D that helps increase calcium absorption in the intestines and reabsorption in the kidneys.
