lecture 19 Flashcards
who is ecological dynamics inspired from
Bernstein and Gibson
what is affordances
in any organisms environment there are features (objects, places) that offer potential opportunities for behaviour. e.g. a stair may afford walking or climbing.
are affordances specific to individuals
yes, specific to each persons abilities
what do skilled decision makers do when time is limited?
tend to consider only a small number of high quality options when time is limited.
what is vital to making accurate decisions about which affordances to pursue?
being able to perceive and and understand the boundaries of each action
what are the different type of energy flows generated by our action.
invariant (constant)
variant (changing)
what is tau
a variable that represents the time-to-contact or time-to-collision between an observer and an approaching object.
when is indirect perception of visual guidance needed
if meaningfull / complex decisions are needed.
when is direct perception of visual guidance needed
if higher order variables can specify action
short term memory
stored for only 20-30 seconds unless rehearsed.
working memory
temporarily store recently presented material. retrieves information from long-term storage to influence current problem solving, decision making, and movement production.
long-term memory
memories that are relatively permanent.
two ways we can get learners to modify technique?
explicit (conscious) - feedback/instructions
implicit (sub-conscious) - manipulate constraints
