lecture 15 Flashcards
synaptic pruning
neurons are eliminated to make the decision more efficient.
long-term potentiation - improved synaptic efficiency
increase in strength allowing two neurons to communicate more efficiently.
Selective inhibition
less neurons are needed to send messages.
Myelination
Maturation of certain nerve cells whereby a fatty sheath forms around the axons which allow the nerve impulses to travel faster.
what does skilled performance look like?
accomplished of task goal, consistent, persistent, adaptability, efficient.
what does skill require?
- Perception/ awareness
- Intention to move
- Postural control
- Coordination
what is the cognitive stage of fitts and posner look like.
you are getting the idea, trail and error, self-talk, awkward and inefficient.
what does the motor stage of the fitts and posner model look like?
coordination, more control, adpatable, less errors and more relaxed.
what does skills stage look like?
automatic, fluid, efficient, accurate and consistent.
s curve in performance curve.
increasing slowly then fast then platueas.
Vertical (difficulty)
Applying what has been learnt to a simpler or harder task.
Lateral (context)
Broad application of skills and knowledge to a range of tasks, all with similar levels of complexity.
