Lecture 15- Autonomic Nervous System II Flashcards
Does the SNS or PNS control pupil constriction?
PNS
SA and AV node have stretch receptors innervated by which system?
PNS
Decrease in BP cause stimulation or inhibition of SNS?
Simulation- leads to vasoconstriction
Increase in BP leads to stimulation or inhibition of SNA
Inhibition- decrease vascular resistance
Does PNS or SNS slow heart rate by decreasing SA node discharges?
PNS
Can the SNS increase HR
Yes
Which pathway does PNS use to constrict pupils?
Pupillary light reflex
Which pathway does SNS use to dilate pupils?
Horner’s pathway
Which eye innervation travels down the neck to the cervicothoracic ganglion?
SNS dilation
Does horner’s or Pupillary light reflex sometimes manifest with vestibular disease?
Horner’s syndrome
Which nerve of the SNS controls micturition?
Hypogastric
The alpha receptors on the hypogastric nerve control-
constriction of the internal urethral sphincter
The beta receptors of the hypogastric nerve control-
Relaxation of detrusor muscle to store urine
What are the PNS nerves in control of micturition?
Pelvic nerve
What does the Ach receptor on the pelvic nerve control?
contraction of detrusor muscle
What somatic nerve innervates the bladder?
Pudendal nerve
What are the Ach receptors on the Pudendal nerve in control of?
constriction of the external urethral sphincter
What causes Horner’s syndrome?
Loss of SNS connection to the eye
What are the signs of horner’s syndrome
Miosis (small pupil), loss of smooth muscle tone, ptosis (drooping eyelid), Enophthalmos (sunken eye), 3rd eyelid prolapse
What are the signs or nicotinic crisis associated organophosphate toxicity?
muscle twitching and tremors
What are the signs of central stimulation associated organophosphate toxicity?
Anxiety, restlessness, and seizures
