What are the ABC’s of exercise psych?

What is B = P X E
Behaviour = Person x Environment
- How they interact with the environment
- How the environment influences psychological processes
What is exercise psychology?
The use of psychology to understand the causes and effects of health-related physical activity
What is physical activity?
Any movement resulting in energy expenditure
What is exercise?
Movement that is planned, repetitive, structured, purpose is to increase fitness
Why does exercise have a negative connotation?
It is threatening and can be scary for some people, which can be why the term PA is used
What are the PA guidelines?
- 150-300 mins MOD intensity/week
OR - 75-150 mins VIG intensity/week
OR - An equivalent combination of moderate and vigorous PA over the week
What is health?
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
What are 2 models of health examples?
- Te Whare Tapa Wha
- The Fonofale Model of Health
What does the Te Whare Tapa Wha model encompass?
5 pillars:
- Spiritual
- Mental

- Physical
What does the Fonofale model of health encompass?
Framework = Family
