Lec 23 - Blood Vessels 1 Flashcards
what do venules do?
drain blood away from capillaries
what are the 3 different layers in blood vessels?
tunica intima - simple squamous, innermost layer
tunica media - middle layer, smooth muscle
tunica externa - outer layer. CT
in larger vessels, what is the 4th layer called?
vaso vasorum
aka “vessels of the vessels”
which vessel has the highest blood pressure?
arteries
which vessels have 3 layers
arteries, arterioles, venules, veins.
which vessel has only 1 layer
capillaries.
which vessel has the lowest pressure and velocity?
capillaries
which vessel has a larger lumen?
veins
which tunic allows changes in the diameter of the blood vessel?
thick tunica media.
which vessel regulates blood flow to the capillary bed supplying tissues?
arterioles
which tunic does sympathetic neurons innervate?
tunica media
what are 5 blood vessels commonly used to determine a person’s pulse?
brachial, medial cubital, radial, carotid arterly. etc
which vessel is most frequently used for drawing blood? why is this vessel the best choice?
medial cubital - its a vein. you cant take blood from an artery
name the blood vessel in the upper limb used to determine a person’s blood pressure.
brachial, medial cubital
trace the path a blood cell would take after leaving to heart to supply oxygen to the foot.
aorta -> abdominal aorta -> common iliac -> external iliac -> femoral -> popliteal -> anterior/posterior tibial -> dorsal & plantar arches
what arteries would you have to go through to go from the heart to the fingers?
aortic arch -> brachiocephalic -> right subclavian -> axillary -> brachial -> radial/ulnar -> palmar arches -> digitals
what is the pathway from the left ventricle to the left foot?
left ventricle -> aortic arch -> descending aorta/abdominal aorta ->common ilian -> external iliac -> femoral -> popliteal -> anterior/posterior tibial -> plantar arches
what are branches of the abdominal aorta?
celiac trunk
superior mesenteric
renal & gonadal
inferior mesenteric
what does the celiac trunk supply?
stomach, spleen, liver
what does the superior mesenteric supply?
small and large intestine
what does the inferior mesenteric supply?
colon and rectum
