LEARNING THEORIES Flashcards
What is social learning theory?
Leadership is learnt through others through vicarious learning
We watch leaders imitate the behaviour we see
Some skills are seen as positive but others may see it as negative.
How does social learning theory work well?
When we watch high status models who are performing well. We are less likely to copy a low status model.
We watch a good model but not copy it directly and put our own spin on it.
What is trait theory?
Great genetic disposition/ innate characteristics that suit leadership
Stable and enduring
Predetermined
Leaders are born but not made
Negatives of trait theory?
Does not account for people who are not leaders but when the situation arises they into that role comfortably
Does not take into account the environment and how they can shape leadership.
What is the interactionist theory?
Person may have the leadership skills however they are not shown until the situation demands it.
Takes into account the innate characteristics and the environment
