Calamine products
First aid (bites), chicken pox if seen
not itch of typical dry skin
-dries out and will make worse
Menthol
Under 1% (anti-pruritic): 0.5 or 0.15 is helpful for dry skin and no irritation. not needed.
Over 1% (counter-irritant): irritates skin and muscle already irritated. Brain handling two signals, irritating skin to change perspective.
Body powder powder
Good for insect bites as rash is too broad, would irritate eczema.
Local anesthetic
Pramoxine or benzocaine or rescorcinol
-yes for first aid but not cuts/burns
-res and benxo only for first aid
Antihistamine for anti-itch
-for bites, sunburn ivy, minor irritation
-not for blistered, raw, oozing skin like chicken pox
-1st gen makes not liked, calomine works just as well
-problem is when put lots on where skin is compromised and get very high dosages
Benadryl
-rash is broad, bad for eczema
-better to use 2nd gen (reactine helps better)
Topical Steroids
hydrocortisone 0.5 and 1% cream or ointment
clobestason
-are anti inflam and help with minor irritation
-0.5 work for baby face and diaper rash

-usually itch and no rash
