the concept of being able to make moral choices using your own volition.

the concept that our choices have been predetermined by a higher power.

Book of decrees
where the angels keep a record of the actions undertaken by each person; this will be used on the Day of Judgement to determine the destination of each human.
Idea of predestination
- Everything has been predetermined before we have even thought about taking those actions.
Sunni belief on predestination
- God alone has supreme power
-God determines the actions that a person will take before they make those choices themselves.
-Sunnis do still believe that humans have free will
Shia beliefs on predestination
-they believe that God has the knowledge of what a person will choose, but does not necessarily determine the action they will take.
-free will is greater here of hunans
Day of judgment and free will beliefs
-If the Book of life is handed into a person’s right hand, then they will be going to Janna (heaven).
If it is given into the left hand, they are destined for Janaham (hell).

Barzakh
this is the state in which humans reside between the point of death and the Day of Judgement.
Sirat bridge
the bridge that spans the fires of hell and over which souls will be taken to heaven.
Book of deeds
this is the document in which the thoughts and actions of humans throughout their lifetime will be recorded.
Barzakh concept
-Time between death and the Day of Judgement.
-People do not go straight to heaven or hell upon their death,
-Some Muslims believe Barzakh is a state of sleep, while others believe you experience a lesser version of where you are destined to be heaven or hell).
-you will be visited by two angels who will ask you a series of questions regarding your belief in Allah
