Introduction to AnaPhysio (LAB) Flashcards
describe body positions, body regions, specific areas, and landmarks
Anatomical Terms
the reference position/the location of body parts or regions
Anatomical Position
in anatomical position, the body is:
- erect (vertical) and facing forward
- the arms are straight and at the sides of the body with the palms facing forward
- the legs are straight with the feet facing forward
the position of the body when it is horizontal and lying on the back
supine position
the position of the body when it is horizontal and lying on the stomach
prone position
refers to the specific areas of the body
Body regions
What are the main body regions?
head, neck, trunk, upper limbs, and lower limbs
the head consists of
the skull and face
the main body region that connects the head to the trunk
neck
the trunk consists of
the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and back
the upper limbs consists of
the shoulders, arms, forearms, and hands
the lower limbs consists of
the buttocks, groin, thighs, legs, and feet
flat surfaces that divide the body or organs to expose internal structures
Planes
the exposed surfaces produced by planes
sections
planes that pass vertically through the body or organs and divide them into right and left sections
sagittal planes
the plane that passes vertically through the midline and divides the body into equal right and left halves
midsagittal plane
a plane that divides the body into unequal left and right portions
parasagittal plane
a plane that passes vertically through the body or organs and produces anterior and posterior sections
frontal and coronal plane
a plane that passes horizontally through the body and produces superior and inferior sections
transverse plane
a plane that pass through the body at an angle forming oblique sections
oblique plane
sections that are produced by a plane running along the long axis of a long narrow structure
longitudinal sections
a plane running perpendicular to the long axis
cross-sections
contains the cranial and facial bones
skull
the anterior portion of the head comprised of the forehead, eyes, nose, cheeks, and chin
face
the area between neck and diaphragm
chest
the area between chest and hip bones
abdomen
the area below the abdomen that contains the internal reproductive organs and urinary bladder
pelvis
the posterior portion of the trunk between neck and buttocks
back
the curved area where arm attaches to upper border of trunk
shoulder
the area between shoulder and elbow
arm
the area between elbow and wrist
forearm
consists of the wrist, palm, and fingers
hand
the rounded area on the posterior surface where thigh attaches to the trunk
buttocks
the area on anterior surface where lower limb attaches to the pelvis
groin
the area of the lower limb between the groin and knee
thigh
the area of lower limb between knee and ankle
leg
includes the ankle, sole, toes
foot
