Injuries Flashcards
What are the 5 main ways to prevent injuries?
Correct training Warming up and cooling down Wearing appropriate equipment Checking equipment and facilities (boots, shin pads etc) Playing to the rules/competition
When using the correct principles of training what does it prevent?
Injury
Whats a overuse injury?
Sustained from repeated action
Whats acute training?
A sudden injury that is usually associated with a traumatic event.
8 types of injuries:
Soft tissue Dislocation Concussion Sprain Abrasions Fractures Strains Torn cartilage
Concussion
Is an injury normally caused to a blow to the head and can happen in many sports
Whats a fracture?
A fracture is a broken or cracked bone that can occur from a blow.
Dislocation
A dislocation is when a bone at a joint is forced out of its normal position.
Torn cartilage
Cartilages are firm elastic substance with lines adjoining bones. It absorbs the imoact on the bones while reducing the friction during sports/activity.
Soft tissue injury
Joints are where 2 or more bones meet. They are particular prone injury of movement past the range can tear or pull tendons and ligaments.
Strains
A strain is a twist, pull or tear of a muscle or a tendon (while a sprain is an injury to a ligament). Most common strains are in the back of the hamstrings.
