Q

What is visual guidance?

A

This type of guidance can be given in many different ways. E.g imagine a coach wants to show you how to do a lay up shot in basketball. The most common way to show you, would be the coach to do a demonstration themselves, or ask another learner to perform.

Q

What is verbal guidance?

A

Verbal guidance can be helpful - as long as it is clear. It can be difficult for beginners to understand verbal guidance, especially if it is to do with a difficult or complicated skill.

Verbal guidance is sometimes used before giving a demonstration, but is more often used at the same time as visual guidance.

Q

What is manual and mechanical guidance?

A

Manual and mechanical guidance is when the coach is actually in contact with the learners as they perform the skill. Clearly, this is only possible in some sports. Using the example of trampolining, the coach can work on the trampoline with the learner.

Q

What is intrinsic feedback?

A

It comes from a performer themselves, as they think about how they feel they performed or what contribution they made to a team or game. This feedback may affect the motivation of the performer,as it is important that they feel that they have performed well and want to come back and continue with the activity.

A

Extrinsic feedback comes from a personal source : for example, from a teacher or coach. This sort of feedback is important for the performer as it will motivate them to improve and learn from their practice.

Mental rehearsal, starts long before the warm up for the game, getting in the right mindset is something you practise during training. A warm up also mentally prepares you and gets you in the zone for physical activity.
