Injectable Anes 2(Propofol) Flashcards
propofol uses
induce anes prior to gas, short procedures, stop status epilepticus
propofol route of admin
IV only
propofol dosage is dependent on
the preanesthetics or adjuncts used
propofol onset time
30-60 sec
how long propofol provides gen anesthesia
5-10min
after injected, propofol travels from the bloodstream to
the brain which redistributes to other areas (muscle/fat), metabolized in liver
how long propofol recovery time
d= 20 min c=30min
how to administer propofol
give dose over 1-2 min, “to effect”
what does giving a drug “to effect” mean
giving until desired effect is achieved
injecting propofol too fast can cause
apnea
giving propofol too slow can cause
no effect (bc the dug is redistributed before effect is achieved) or can cause excitement via CNS stimulation
Propofol provies
a) analgesia
b) anesthesia
c) both
b
propofol effects on CNS
CNS depression, CNS excitment if admin too slowly
propofol effects of cardio
cardiac depressant (bradycardia, decreased CO, hypotension)
propofol effects on respirations
apnea if dose too high or given too fast
