Parvovirus B19

Symptoms
A
Rose pink rush on both cheeks (may extend to body)
Rarely involves palms and soles
Fever
Headache
Aching muscles (Myalgia)

Diagnosis
A
Clinical diagnosis
Consider:
- Bloods: Serum IgM, IgG
- PCR: can be used on amniotic fluid to diagnose infection in a foetus

Treatment
A
Self limiting and resolves in 1-2 weeks
School exclusion is unnecessary as the child is not infectious once the rash emerges
Stay away from:
- Pregnant people
- Immunocompromised
- Haemological conditions: sickle cell, thalassaemia
