<2 years: expectant approach should be taken in case this is physiological phimosis which will resolve over time
- Forcible retraction can result in scar tissue formation and so should be avoided
- Personal hygiene is important
> 2 years + recurrent balanoposthitis or urinary tract infection: treatment can be considered.
