IMRT Flashcards
1
Q
what does IMRT do
A
allows us to bend dose distribution
improve the shape of distribution to target volume and OARs
2
Q
Why use IMRT?
A
- improve conformity w target dose
- reduce irradiation of normal tissues
- treat concave structures to a high dose
3
Q
Rationale for IMRT
A
↑Tumour control probability(TCP) while maintaining the same or ↓normal tissue Complication Probability(NTCP)
allows a more efficient way of delivering complicated plans , therefore ↓treatment times
4
Q
IMRT should be considered if:
A
- target is irregular and close to OARs
- when the only option available is to cover target and protect nearby structures
- convace target where an conformal dose distribution is required
