IBD Immunologics Flashcards
What is infliximab (Remicade)?
Anti-TNFalpha monoclonal antibody
Antibody against tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNK-a), effective for inflammatory conditions including RA, IBD, Crohn’s Disease, and Ulcerative Colitis.
What are the infusion details for infliximab?
2 hour infusion at hospital
Administered in a clinical setting.
What are common side effects of infliximab?
Secondary infection, URI, sinusitis, anemia, hypotension
2nd infe from suppression of immune system
Immunologics can reactivate latent infections like TB.
What type of medication is upadacitinib (Rinvoq)?
Janus Kinase inhibitor
Not on the test, but important to know.
What type of medication is ustekinumab (Stelara)?
Anti-IL-12 and IL-23 monoclonal antibody
Not on the test, but important to know.
What is Crohn’s Disease?
Narrowing of lumen and fat strand wrapping, can affect any area of GI tract, skip lesions
An autoimmune disorder affecting the digestive system.
What is Ulcerative Colitis?
Usually continuous through large intestine/colon and rectum
An autoimmune disorder affecting the digestive system.
What is the underlying cause of IBD?
Autoimmune disorder leading to antibodies produced against the digestive system
Results in inflammatory mediators like tumor necrosis factor.
What is the role of antibodies produced against the digestive system in IBD?
Results in inflammatory mediators like tumor necrosis factor.
What is the role of inflammatory mediators in IBD?
Cause inflammation and tissue damage
Key factor in the pathology of IBD.
