Hypertension Flashcards
Drugs that increase BP
Amphetamines/ADHD meds Decongestants Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents Immunosuppressants (cyclosporine) NSAIDs Steroids
Preferred drug class, that is NOT first line for African-Americans
ACE and ARBs
Hypertension tx in pregnancy
Labetolol
Methyldopa
Nifedipine XR
Thiazides type diuretics
HCTZ
Chlorthalidone
Indapamide
Metolazone
Thiazides MOA
Inhibit Na reabsorption, so increases excretion of Na, H20, K, and Cl
Thiazides notes
CI if sulfa allergy
Decreases potassium
All not effective if CrCl <30 (except metolazone)
Sun sensitivity
DHP CCBs MOA
Inhibit Ca ions from entering vascular smooth muscle and myocardial cells causing peripheral arterial vasodilation
Non-DHP CCBs MOA
Same as DHP CCBs but more selective for the myocardium
-diltiazem and verapamil
Angiotensin II role
Causes vasoconstriction and increases aldosterone (Na and H20 retention)
BBs with ISA
Acebutolol Pindolol Penbutolol -partially stimulate beta receptors, while blocking the effects of catocholamines (NE) -do not lower HR as much
BBs of choice in HF
Bisoprolol
Carvedilol
Metoprolol succinate
B1 selective BBs
AMEBBA Acebutolol Metoprolol Esmolol Bisoprolol Betaxolol Atenolol
Non-selective BBs
Nadolol
Propranolol
Timolol
Pindolol
Non-selective and Alpha1 blocking BBs
Carvedilol
Labetalol
BB that has to be taken with food
Carvedilol
-all forms
